City of El Monte Documents
(and Information)

El Monte, pop. 113,000, is 12 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.

Some of El Monte's tickets can be ignored.  If your "ticket" does not have the Superior Court's name and address on it, it is what I call a "Fake Ticket."  For more details, see the Fake Ticket section on the Your Ticket page.

Be sure to read the "Countywide Information," which is Docs Set # 2 on the LA County Documents page.

This table made by highwayrobbery.net, using official monthly tabulations of citations actually issued.
[  ] indicates a footnote.
[1]  Totals are as provided by the City.
[2]  YTD = Year-to-date total.
[3]  Un-used columns are to allow for later expansion of City's system.
[4]  Figures in red type are "raw" violations recorded by the cameras, and may have been posted only for selected months, due to time limitations.  If there is sufficient public interest, the remaining months will be posted.  The figures in black type are citations issued.
[6]  Until Dec. 29, 2004, I wrote here:  "Of the two Peck / Ramona cameras, one covers SB Peck lefts, and the other covers WB Ramona lefts."  That information was partially incorrect.  As of Dec. 29, there is no camera on southbound Peck.
[7]  The March - May drop in Peck / Ramona citations coincides with the  Apr. 12  completion date of a new signal timing chart  for that intersection.  The new chart shows yellow times of 3.5 seconds for both left turn movements.  I have requested, but have not yet received, the chart  with the settings that would have been in effect prior to Apr. 12.

Warning Sign Blocked - Santa Anita at Lower Azusa

A reader sent photos of the Santa Anita / Lower Azusa intersection, showing that a required warning sign (see Defect # 4) was blocked by a palm tree, until March 11, 2005.

(Photo taken after trimming of tree.)

The obscured warning sign would affect the validity of all tickets at that intersection, not just the southbound left turn.
The photos are a big file, 1500 kb, so are on a separate page.

El Monte Docs Set # 3
Program Closed

On Oct. 21, 2008, the El Monte city council voted to end the issuance of tickets, effective Nov. 30, 2008.  But they will continue to prosecute the tickets issued before that date.  For more info, read this article and follow the link it contains.

El Monte Docs Set # 4
The Contract, Etc.

2003 Contract

The contract did not include a "cost neutrality" clause.

The contract also said:
Definitions.  "Warning Period" means the period of thirty (30) days after the Installation Date.
See Defect # 6.

This list of contracts and amendments may not be up-to-date - there could be a contract or amendment later than the ones listed above.
